I’m a little behind on poem-ing at the moment as yesterday was Easter(we celebrated as a family on Saturday because sometimes that’s what fire families do when shifts fall on holidays) and my oldest teenager left the country for a school trip to Italy. I had so many feelings yesterday that could have been poured onto paper but were spent with a friend and my other two teenagers. But, I’m back at it today, catching up again. I went a little out of order on these prompts and I think it worked in my favor. By writing the poem for day 19 before 18, it gave me the idea and the inspiration for day 18. Day 19 is a persona poem, writing from the point of view of someone else and day 18 is a response poem. I hope you enjoy reading them. As always, like, comment, share, subscribe!

Day 19 A Persona Poem

The Cat’s Meow

A cat’s got to do

what a cat’s got to do

The rules haven’t changed

This is nothing new

I am the definition of

the cat’s meow

The way I command a room

deserves a bow

When I am hungry

I get fed

I cry while you sleep

I could wake the dead

And as for snuggles and head scratches

That’s all on my time

Not doing what I want

is really a crime

I am the superior pet,

hear me roar,

I’ll show any others the door.

Day 18-A Response Poem

Dog

Everyone loves dog

The world calls me man’s best friend

No one calls cat that.
