Every year around this time, as we figure out new routines, as the days get shorter and the nights get longer, the dip in my daily vitamin D level dips and I feel a little seasonally down. My dip this year feels a little earlier than normal and also feels a little bigger than normal. As I’ve been dealing with low energy and more fatigue the past few weeks it has reminded me of the years I spent dealing with adrenal fatigue, one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
So on this Fun Friday, as we head into the weekend, no matter what your plans are, I want to be the first to remind you to listen to your body and take care of yourself this weekend. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” If we don’t take care of our bodies and minds, we can’t do the work that God wants us to do. Maybe taking care of yourself this weekend means getting some extra sleep. Maybe it means going for a walk or to the gym. Maybe it means preparing a healthy meal. Right now taking care of myself looks like drinking lemon water in the mornings, taking my vitamins and supplements, drinking plenty of water, moving my body, eating less sugar and eating more protein. It also looks like not procrastinating on tasks, doing what I need to do before doing what I want to do, planning ahead, making a schedule that I can follow that allows breathing room, and making time to do things that bring me joy(exercise, crafting, reading, writing). Mental health and physical health go hand in hand and if we neglect one, odds are the other is going to suffer. Even though I am struggling a little bit right now, I’m thankful that God is in control and that he already has the victory.
No matter what you are doing this weekend, make sure you take time to take care of yourself, mentally, physically, and spiritually. This is what I’ll be doing…
Mentally-Reading, writing, crafting, watching at least 3 basketball games.
Physically- Going for a run, taking the dog for walks.
Spiritually-Going to bible study, spending time in the word and in prayer, going to church on Sunday morning.
Please leave me a note in the comments about what you will do this weekend to take care of yourself. Hope you all have a restful weekend.
While I am working on my physical health, I am also working on my mental health by thinking about the things I think about and working on my inner dialogue. Just like these flowers that I planted from seedlings back in the spring are blooming now, it also takes time for us to grow. As long as you have breath in your lungs, it’s never too late for a change.
