That was some blizzard today and last I checked, it was still snowing. It’s laughable really. Incredible. Every time I went out to shovel an area for the dogs to go to the bathroom, it looked like I never touched said area within 20 minutes of shoveling. I was shocked when I woke up this morning and we still had power. The wind was howling, branches breaking off of trees and hitting the windows and side of the house. I opened the doors every few hours so the snow wouldn’t continue to accumulate and trap us inside, but tried to be mindful once the power when out so we wouldn’t lose too much heat.
The power went out before any of my teenagers woke up. It’s funny the things that we take for granted like hot water in the shower and every little thing that gets plugged in to get electricity. We naturally spend so much time on our personal devices that when they aren’t available we question what we are to do. I won’t deny it, but the thought of losing power but possibly gaining connection with my teenagers made me a little giddy. I was also thrilled at the thought of not feeling the pull of technology on my life all day. I longed for a day in Hope Valley (from Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart) or Little House on the Prairie, or at least a little taste of it. And I had quite the throwback day if I do say so myself. We played Battleship and Monopoly and there was lots of Legos being played with. Books were read, laughs were had, a lot of food was consumed. I watched big bodies kneeling in our bay window peering out at the snow like they did when they were small. And we all stopped in our tracks and watched our fireman plow just like we used to My mama heart was so full today. I contemplated the idea of suggesting we make a fort but I figured that might be pushing it. However tomorrow is another snow day, so maybe I’ll bring it up then. I hope that if you had a snow day that you stayed warm ad experienced your own magic today. Be well my friends and God bless you.
