I went to a simulcast event at my church today called “Prepare Him Room.” The speaker this year is a bible teacher named Kelly Minter. It was a beautiful event and I ate entirely too many cookies. Part of me wishes I had brought a notebook and pen to take notes of all the amazing things she taught on. One thing that really stuck out to me that I thought I’d share was this; where are we getting our Christmas ideals from? She asked if we are getting them from Hallmark movies, in which my friend turned and looked at me. I do enjoy my Hallmark movies and I did set my dvr to record more than I will probably ever have time to watch this Christmas season. But in all seriousness, where are we getting these ideals from? Are we putting unrealistic expectations on ourselves? Are we breaking the bank trying to put presents under the tree and in the stockings that may or may not ever get used? Are we remembering why we celebrate Christmas? Some people celebrate Christmas and don’t know why or choose to ignore the reason for the season. Friends, I want to tell you tonight that we celebrate Christmas because that is when Jesus Christ was born to a virgin named Mary to save humanity from sin. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21. If you are feeling lost this year, maybe you are searching for answers in all the wrong places. This world will never fill all the brokenness in your life. Only Jesus can do that.
