I love having music on in my house. I’m just getting back into the habit of putting on either Spotify or K-Love. If it’s the morning, it will always be K-Love as I love listening to the morning show with Carlos and Amy. But in the afternoons and evenings I will go with my mood. Sometimes I’ll put on an instrumental mix by Jim Brickman. Sometimes I’ll play Michael Bublé. I always enjoy some throwbacks. Spotify surprised me this week with a Disney playlist straight out of my childhood. Oftentimes when I listen to Jim Brickman, I pick his Disney songbook as it is mostly all instrumental and it is so relaxing, but this playlist was all the originals; Elton John singing Circle of Life, Peabo Bryson singing A Whole New World, Jodi Benson singing Part of Your World-to name a few…
Over the past few years as my dad’s health has declined, I can’t listen to Can You Feel the Love Tonight without tears stinging my eyes. The Lion King was his favorite Disney movie, and he would watch it with my boys when they were little, as he watched it with me when I was a child. I mean he would usually fall asleep, but nonetheless, they looked forward to watching with him and vice versa. I always loved the song Circle of Life, but now I hear it differently than I did as a child, seeing it in action, seeing the Circle of Life right before my eyes. I see my aging and declining dad, I see my growing children nearing adulthood, and I see my hubby and I nearing middle age-it is the Circle of Life. If it’s been awhile, have a listen. Does it have different meaning to you now? Are you hearing it for the first time(gasp)? What thoughts come to your mind? I’d love to hear what memories or feelings come to you as you listen. Perhaps there’s another song that brings you back, Id love to hear what it is. Music is good for the soul. Be well my friends.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Ah, the magic of music. The salve of the sole. I too have playlists that adapt to my mood. Isn’t it wonderful that we can surround ourselves with sounds that, for a time, are purely our own?
