When I look at my dog and my cats and I think, they know how to relax. What does a pet’s life consist of anyway? I feed them two meals a day. They nap in the sun, in the shade, on the couch, on a bed, on a cold, hard floor, inside, outside, etc. They get belly rubs and chin scratches, snacks, and all the loving in the world. They don’t have to worry about anything or manage their time or money. They live such simple lives. And yet they enrich our lives. My cats have snuggled by my side when I laid in bed upset over my son’s broken arm. My dog has made me smile on many occasions just because. Maybe this is part of the reason I gravitated towards working with animals. They are simple and lovable, they don’t have an agenda, they keep no record of wrongs. I can’t live like my pet’s because I wasn’t designed to do so, but I can definitely take a lesson from them about simplicity.
Dear God. Thank you for the blessing that my pets are. Thank you that you’ve given them to us to take care of and to love. Lord I pray that you would help me to pursue simplicity this weekend. In Jesus name amen.
